about

My father, Ken Wahpecome, has always been an inspiration to me. He told me many stories from his younger days about listening with his brother to country music on their old record player in Shawnee, Oklahoma. His love of country music was passed down to me when he played his records before we went to church on Sunday mornings. Jim Reeves, Hank Thompson, Ray Price and Hank Williams are my old friends. It was extra special to have BR549 on this track. All the events in the song are true --and my dad still has his old vinyl albums. Between his records and mine, we could start a radio station or one killer collectible store!

lyrics

He liked the country music on a Sunday morn
Been listening to country music since he was born
Watching cowboy movies at the matinee
Waiting for Bob Wills and the band to play

Radio brought the music into his home
He’d dream of all the records he would own
Earned some cash bought a few at the five and dime
He listened to them all one more time

CHORUS
All night long
He played that song
Pick up the needle before we wear it out
All night long
He played that song
My Daddy’s records make the past come alive
Every time

He grew up and took the family on the road
Country music would ease his heavy load
He listened to the music when he could
Those steel guitars and fiddles understood

So CD’s might be the format of the day
He still won’t throw his cowboy records away
He’s older now but the music’s still his friend
He listens to them all again and again

CHORUS
All night long
He played that song
Pick up the needle before we wear it out
All night long
He played that song
My Daddy’s records make the past come alive
Every time
