about

One of the characters from the "Red Road" play, Patty Jones, sings the country that got her inducted into the Grand Ole Opry -- and kicks off her tenth anniversary TV special live from the All Nations Café. The song is dedicated to her pal, Verna Yahola, the owner of the Café and the Trucker's bride mentioned in the song.

lyrics

Those long summer days in the diner
Got hotter when you came walkin' in
I poured you a hot cup of coffee
Kept your mug filled to the brim

Daddy said to stay away from truckers
But Mama married one anyway
I stared in your eyes while dreamin'
Of kissing you on our our wedding day

CHORUS

I was a Trucker's Bride
Filled with pride and longing
Wonderin' where your rig was down the road
A Trucker's Bride
Arms open wide and waiting
For her loving man to come back home

Some men love the freedom of the highway
You'll never hear them say the words "I Do"
Honey, you weren't one of those drivers
To your rig and me you're always true

Everytime you come home from haulin'
We hug and kiss and jump right into bed
Though I spent many nights alone, dear
I'm so glad we took the plunge and wed

CHORUS

I was a Trucker's Bride
Filled with pride and longing
Wonderin' where your rig was down the road
A Trucker's Bride
Arms open wide and waiting
For her loving man to come back home
Comin' home
